"Plug Power (NASDAQ:PLUG) has been one of the biggest losers in the sector as a result of the recent fall in the market. The stock had been doing quite well before the stock fell and it looked like the stock will reach $6 soon. However, the recent pull back has brought the price close to $5 and Plug Power has come down by more than 8% over the last five days. Despite the recent pull back, Plug power is not the worst performer in the sector - Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ:BLDP) have lost 10% during the same period while FuelCell Energy (NASDAQ:FCEL) has been a relatively better performer compared to its peers and it has only lost about 4%. As I have said before, price volatility will remain in this sector as the technology is still at the early stages of its application and a robust market for these products will take some time to develop.
I am optimistic about the overall prospects of the industry as I have explained in this article that the need to move to clean energy will ensure the future growth of fuel cell manufactures. Furthermore, the decision of big players like General Electric (NYSE:GE) to enter the sector shows that the potential is real - it will create some competition for the existing players but overall it will have a good impact on the sector as the credibility of the technology will increase.
